Road to Hana and Hana Town: There is Maui, and then there is Heavenly Hana. Isolated from the rest of the island, the Hana Coast is the last undeveloped tropical paradise on Maui. Hana has been saved from progress by the serpentine Road to Hana. The view of the coastline is spectacular with waterfalls splashing beside the road, and plunge pools lipped in ferns.
The charm of Hana Town is that little has changed in the past 25 years, perpetuating the small town atmosphere, Hawaiian culture, and scenic beauty. Hana Palms Retreat at Hana Gardenland is conveniently located on the Hana Road, just three and one-half miles before Hana Town, seven minutes by car, and one mile from Waianapanapa State Park.
Location on the Hana Coast: Hana Gardenland is 3.5 miles from Hana Town, where there are 2 general stores and 2 restaurants. Hana Gardenland is about 1 mile from Waianapanapa black sands beach, 4 miles from Red Sands beach in Hana and 5 miles from Hamoa white sands beach.
Hana Gardenland: Hana Gardenland encompasses 5 acres of awesome tropical botanical gardens. Thousands of rare and unusual plants and flowers from around the world flourish here. Gardenland has one of the most diverse palm tree collections on Maui with 100 varieties. Botanical signs name the tree and country of origin.
The Hawaiian Islands have some of the most remote and benign tropical rainforests in the world. Nevertheless, like any moist and fertile environment, Hana Gardenland is also home to insects like mosquitos, ants and roaches and critters like little geckos that share this beautiful world with humans. To keep out bugs, remember to close the doors right after entering. Don't leave food or crumbs on counters or tables because ants are really smart and fast. During rainy periods, there can be tropical mildew smell in the houses, and people hypersensitive to mold may not find this an appropriate environment.
Immerse your senses in a tropical paradise. Walk on grassy paths wandering through lush gardens. See towering palms, rainbow eucalyptus, hanging banyans, exotic fruit trees. Feel a moist breeze on your skin. Listen to bird song. Smell ginger, jasmine, tropical flowers. Taste ripe avocados, lilikoi, bananas, papayas, coconuts, figs.

Wonderful 4 night stay
We almost spent our whole 2 weeks on Maui in Kihei, but ended up spending our first 4 nights in Hana and I am SO-O-O glad we did! I don't think you can get the feel of Hana by just being there a couple hours. The Hana Palms was wonderful. It isn't a place for everyone....it isn't the Hilton (or the Hana Travaasa Hotel), but it is wonderful in it's own way. We stayed in the lower property. It was nice, clean and had everything we needed. It is in a rain forest and things didn't always dry well, so be sure to ask where the dryer is! We walked the property and saw lots of native plants. It is a great place to roam (but watch for spider webs if you walk in the morning!). It was a short easy drive to Hana and a great starting point for all our journeys on the west side of Maui. There is a great fruit, smoothie & fresh banana bread stand at the corner...be sure to walk there...a nice start to each morning.
Take the time to travel the Hana Highway south of town to see waterfalls, The Pools of Ohe'o (in the National Park), Palapala Ho'omau Church & Charles Lindbergh's grave and just past the church & grave on the right is the best fruit stand for a snack...worth the extra quarter mile or so. The hike to the red sand beach is an experience in it's self, but the beach is worth the hike.
If you don't need daily maid service and you like unique places, stay at the Hana Palms...you won't regret it!!

Hana Garden House Weekend
We would like to simply say that our experience with the Hana Palms Retreat was exceptional in every way. Firstly, we received the information on the Hana Palms Retreat from a referral. The house and property are spectacular. More importantly, all correspondence with the owner was direct and very accommodating. This property is everything that one would imagine a Hana Retreat to be. We rented the entire Garden House both upper and lower and could not be more satisfied with the entire experience and would highly recommend anyone to do the same...you will not be sorry!
